ゼノギアス:ビリー・リー・ブラック (11-year improvement?)

Xenogears' Billy Lee Black

I doubt anyone remembers this videogame from the PS1 days, but I remember watching my brother playing it, and my cousin in Japan getting obsessed with it. I still have the soundtrack and the 'Perfect Works' artbook of it.

Haaa... Recently I was kind of cleaning up my 'art studio' (aka my former bedroom), and happened to find a small, blank page journal that housed... my earlier, beginning days of drawing the anime/manga-style in High School. ><;
The rest of the pages were blank (I used only about 5 or 10 pages to draw...). I cringed when I saw that, so I avoided those pages like the plague, until I decided to use the opportunity to just re-draw those awful  things and see if I've improved. I can't tell if I have or not... Well, okay. Lineart-sketch-wise, yeah.
See, unlike in Japan, where kids are drawing anime-styled stuff since they were kids, I started when I was 16-17 years old... no, wait... maybe slightly younger then that. When Sailor Moon got re-aired again in the US, and when Tokyopop (formerly Mixx Magazines) brought CLAMP's "Magic Knight Rayearth" over...

Here's to 10 more years and further of improvement.

豪快下絵 (Gokai Rough Sketch): 久しぶりだマベちゃん♥

Basco Ta Jolokia
バスコ·タ·ジョロキア

"It's been a long time, Mabe-chan ♥"
Sorry about the watermark, but... never know when someone yanks it.
After watching ep. 15... God, Basco you cheap bastard...
Not only that, but when I decided to draw him a bit before the aired episode, I found him kind of difficult to draw, due to not having a good amount of reference material to rely on... *sweatdrops*
Relying on his actor (Hosogai Kei)'s photos didn't help either... OTL

Used 0.5 mechanical pencil, a bit of 0.7 pencil, and Draft pencil to roughly get a 'fat' line variation.

豪快練習(Gokai Practice)

Gokaiger's Joe Gibken using Photoshop

Remember that lineart in the post below? Work in Progress here.
Debating if I should continue it, or just leave it as is...

I learned: Make sure your lineart looks okay, and figure out what 'coloring' method you're going to use for this. Not to mention, I learned there is a HUGE difference to an 'anime' style lineart sketch, and a more 'realistic' pencil sketch lineart which can affect the way you paint something...
It almost threw me off when I attempted to paint realistically due to using Yamada Yuki's (the actor who plays Joe) magazine photos as reference for the lighting and such. Going too realistic on an anime line art ends up looking REALLY weird...
Thank god for saving multiple copies of this to go back and somewhat start over, and balance everything out.

I painted this from dark to light, and kind of played with the opacity while layering color (similar to the way people would paint with Acrylics).

豪快スケッチ!(Gokai Sketches!)

Might as well start with something that I did... some months ago as just practice... (sweatdrop)

 Luka Millfy and Don Dogoier portraits done in Ink Brush pen.

Drew these during I was stressed out on an art school assignment.
In reality, I used a Light Cerulean Blue Prismacolor marker and just roughly scribbled the portraits like how people would use the non-photo blue pencil. Then inked it while using the cast's photos as reference points (I'm not good enough to do everything from memory...). I used Photoshop to get rid of the lines afterwards. I had Ahim sketched out roughly, but it didn't look as good as those two so I didn't ink her in (sorry Ahim!).

I was practicing drawing some portraits of Goseiger characters (both in semi-realistic and anime counterparts in styles), so I took a break and drew this.
Working on a colored version for this in Photoshop at the moment... actually, I was using this sketch as a base to practice some Photoshop work. I need to finish it up... (sweatdrops)

Pardon the Mess...

The purpose of this Art Blog is just dumping fanarts that range from anime, manga, Tokusatsu, and possible non-Japanese fandom-related things, whether they are in-progress, sketches that I think looks good as unfinished, practice art (because I am using fanart as just a vehicle to practice a lot of mediums and styles and stuff...), and other... stuffs!

...Not to mention, the look of this blog is in-progress too. Please bear with me! ><;
